Her next series will begin at2pm on Wednesday, June 4th and continue weekly through Wednesday,June 25th. The purpose of the workshopis to inspire and assist those attending the class to write stories for familyposterity through flash, micro and creative nonfiction writing to tell truelife or fictional stories. Ideally,participants will attend as many sessions as possible, but perfect attendanceis not required. Deborah Tainsh is the author of thenovel Love’s Return; the memoir Heartof a Hawk: One Family’s Sacrifice andJourney Toward Healing; and essays published the Chicken Soup for theSoul publications and Folded Flag: Families of War Share Stories of Coping, Courage and Faith. Ultimately, this debut memoir-in-pieces is a thoughtful story of learning to become whole again. Lauren Rhoades is a writer, editor, and grantmaker living in Jackson, Mississippi. Originally from Denver, Colorado, Lauren has served with AmeriCorps, started Mississippi's first fermentation company, and helmed the Eudora Welty House & Garden. She is now director of grants at the Mississippi Arts Commission and a host of MPB’s The Mississippi Arts Hour. In 2022, Lauren founded Rooted Magazine, an online publication dedicated to telling unfiltered stories about what it means to call Mississippi home. This will be the Club’s only fundraiser and helps support the club’s many good works in our local community and beyond. Please join us for this year’s event, which includes food, beverages, music and a silent auction. Participants can paddle around Mallini Bayou or across the Bay in kayaks, canoes, or paddleboards at any time. We will have buoys and spotter boats along the route between the Highway 90 and railroad bridges. Launch at Henderson Point Park or Henderson Point boat launch. Each participant will get monetary sponsors in order to participate in the paddle. Suggested minimum donation is $50. The top three participants with the most money donated will win the golden paddle, silver paddle or bronze paddle which also come with prizes. If you want to rent a paddleboard, contact SIP Paddle Rental which delivers paddleboards all along the MS Gulf Coast. They will also be giving paddleboard tours every hour starting at 8AM with last tour at 12PM. The tours begin at the Henderson Point Park Kayak Launch and are approximately a 1.4 mile round paddleboard trip. Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) will be provided. Five people can participate at a time. First come, first served! The tours will be free with donations to the rotary club greatly appreciated! Sip Paddle Rental will also be raffling off a paddleboard! All proceeds will go to the rotary club.
